It's 15 to 17 blocks from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (on 8th Avenue from 40th to 42nd Street) to 52nd Street and Park Avenue: 10 to 12 street blocks north and 5 avenue blocks east.
It's technically 6 avenue blocks east, but I'm not counting Broadway. Broadway runs diagonally through Manhattan, interrupting the grid pattern that the streets are laid out on. Its path often cuts between avenues, creating two smaller avenue blocks where there would be only one.
Well the Port Authority entrance is on W 40th St. So it is 12 St away.

It's 8 blocks straight north from Penn Station (34th Street between 8th and 7th Avenues) to the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd Street at 8th Avenue).
The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel is at 100 East 50th Street, although the main entrance is on Park Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets.Take the Uptown E train (of the A-C-E, the blue line) from 34th Street-Penn Station to 5th Avenue-53rd Street. Then walk 3 blocks south to 50th Street, and 2 blocks east (5th Avenue ---> Madison Avenue ---> Park Avenue).
It's very close. The address 442 West 36th Street is between 10th and 9th Avenues. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is at West 42nd Street and 8th Avenue. So it's just six blocks south and one and a half blocks west. Which is about half a mile, since 17 to 20 New York City street blocks (north/south blocks) equals a mile, and 5 to 10 avenue blocks (east/west blocks) equals a mile.
