The Blitz during World War II destroyed 19 churches in London when nearly 30,000 bombs were dropped. In addition to the churches, 31 guildhalls were destroyed, and thousands of people were killed.
The Blitz was the nazi name for that operation. 1,172 civilians were killed and 4,448 injured on Plymouth alone but there were other cities bombed in the Blitz.
The bombs killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki by the end of 1945,[4] roughly half on the days of the bombings
