Humans have one bone in their buttocks. It is one (ischium) of three that fuse to make that make the hip bone. The ischium is sometimes called the sit down bone.
Each hip bone consists of 3 sections, ilium, ischium, and pubis.
During childhood, these sections are separate bones, joined by cartilage. During puberty, they fuse together to form a single bone.
