She shouldn't be worrying about calories because when you are 14 you are still GROWING which means 1500 to 2000 calories but not of junk food. Just follow the Asian food pyramid, plenty of dark greens limit meat and animal products and go for whole grain bread products. Believe me, your pre-frontal cortex will thank you!
You can eat pretty much whatever you want, but if you want to maintain a healthy weight, eat:
1. A medium-sized breakfast with a healthy drink (like milk instead of pop)
2. A medium-sized lunch with any drink (you could have sugary pop or healthy milk)
3. A small mid-afternoon snack
4. A large dinner
5. If you need something else before bed, try something like a fruit salad vs. a bowl of ice cream if you're trying to lose weight. If you're trying to maintain your current weight, then you can have ice cream or a cookie.
I would say about 1200-1600 calories a day. Unless you're on a diet then you should consume at least 1000 calories with excersize and watching how much fat you eat per day.
