Kaskaskie was the capital city in the Illinois Territory and continued as the capital city in the state of Illinois until 1819 when the capital was moved to Vandalia. Kaskaskia was the first Illinois State Capital in 1818, and the Capital was moved to Vandalia for tweny years when it was shifted to Springfield in 1839.
