If you mean mitosis, then I have an answer. After the cell has split, the new cell will have the exact same number of chromosomes as the one before did.
Example: We have 23 pairs (46 chromosomes). When replication must occur we must have the same number of chromosomes as we did before or it will not double correctly. The new cell then will have 23 pairs (46 chromosomes).
