Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total) so a typical human cell that divides by mitosis would produce two cells each containing 46 chromosomes (two of each). In contrast a human cell which divides by meiosis would produce four cells each containing 23 chromosomes (one of each).

Chromosomes are replicated in prophase of mitosis and then that give you 46 pair,92 chromosomes. This is halved in anaphase and in telophase the cell forms two daughter cells with the regular 23 pairs, 46 chromosomes.

Different species have a different numbers of chromosomes. Mitosis is nuclear division. If the cell had 14 chromosomes before mitosis, it will have 14 chromosomes after mitosis. Humans have 46 chromosomes before and after mitosis. During meiosis, the numbers of chromosomes are halved so that they will have the correct number of chromosomes after fertilization. In this case an organism with 14 chromosomes each gamete would have 7. In humans each gamete has 23 chromosomes. Fertilization brings the number of chromosomes back up to its diploid number.
