Eggs and sperms are gametes. They are haploid. Haploid means that they have half the regular number of chromosomes. This works really well because an egg and a sperm join together to begin a new organism which will then have the entire diploid number of chromosomes. A human body cell would have 46 chromosomes. Since a human egg cell is a reproductive cell (sex cell), it would contain only half the number of chromosomes as a body cell. Thus, a human egg cell would have 23 chromosomes.

A sex cell has half the number of chromosomes for a good reason. When two sex cells reproduce, they combine to form double the number of chromosomes. So when two cells with 23 chromosomes each reproduce, the offspring would have 46 chromosomes. To keep humans at 46 chromosomes per cell, sex cells are produced through meiosis, which is a process that creates cells with half the number of chromosomes.

I assume you mean a human egg ( oocyte ) cell. That would be 23 chromosomes, 1/2 the usual number and the usual number for a human gamete.

If an egg is fertilized by a sperm containing a Y chromosome, the egg would mature into a fetus which would then mature into a male offspring

How is a baby sexs determine?

It's determined by the genetic chromosome of the sperm. Women have only one X chromosome in the egg (both egg and sperm have 23 pairs of chromosomes, which unite to form 46). On the other hand, men have either X or Y chromosomes. If an egg (X chromosome) joins with an X chromosome sperm, the result will be a girl. If an egg (X chromosome) joins with a Y chromosome sperm, the result will be a boy. In other words: the guy determines the sex of a baby :)

In humans a zygote will develop into a male it the?

egg contributes an X chromosome and the sperm contributes a Y chromosome.

Are you more likely to have a boy if the father's family are all boys?

It is the sperm that fertilizes the egg that will determine the sex of your baby. Some sperm carry the X-chromosome and some sperm carry the Y-chromosome. If an X-chromosome-carrying sperm fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a girl. If a Y-chromosome-carrying sperm fertilizes the egg, the baby will be a boy.

What percentage of human sperm Cells carry an X chromosome?

50 % of human sperm Cells are an X chromosome, the other half are a Y chromosome: {diploid = 2n = 1 chromosome pair; haploid = n = 1 chromosome - including the meiotic single chromosome = n}. All sperm and egg Cells carry one set each of n (23 single) chromosomes. When a sperm and an egg combine either: a) a sperm Cell with the X chromosome merges with the [X-chromosome] egg Cell and the baby will be a girl; or b) a sperm Cell with the Y chromosome merges with the egg Cell and the baby will be a boy.
