From, inside the EU, you can literally bring back as much as you can carry - provided - you can prove it's for personal use only. From outside the UK, you're limited to 200 cigarettes (one sleeve).

Whoever wrote this answer could have expanded on it a bit - it seems like a lot for a non EU country , and I found no answer other than 200 cigs for any non EU country on the customs website .

From a country outside the EU - you're restricted to 200. From another EU country - theoretically there is no limit HOWEVER - you must be prepared to prove they are for personal use !
