The Union suffered 17,197 casualties at Chancellorsville: 1,606 killed, 9,672 wounded, and 5,919 missing. These numbers include the 4,000 men of the XI Corps who were captured on May 2. When you compare only the killed and wounded numbers on both sides, they were nearly the same. However, the Confederate forces fielded less than half the total number the Union did during the battle, so their percentage lost was much higher. However, the battle was still considered a Confederate victory, as the Union withdrew from the battlefield.
