You can have zero bars and still be on a server.
If you are the host of the Server, you open up Minecraft Server . Wait for it to load then it will say its ready. If you are going to someone else's server, and it has no bars, then there server is not active. (Which means they dont have Minecraft Server up).
Your connection speed. More bars equals faster connection and less lag.

The amperage capacity of the main bus bars and the connection of the main breaker to the bus bars.
The connection is probably not that good. Believe it or not, two bars is not that good of a connection at all. If you want a reliable wi-fi internet connection, go buy your own. When I use someone else's wi-fi, it always has full bars, but because the connection is bad, it usually goue down to one bar within a couple of seconds. Bottom line, if you want good wi-fi, get your own. -Anonymous Avenger
It has 3G, I'm sitting at Fort Pickett right now and I am showing full bars on 3G.
If it doesn't connect to the internet with full bars you have to be close to the wireless connection box or pointing in the same direction. Hope I helped!
Once you buy it you press start the type in %appdata% in the search box (you do it a different way if you have windows 7) then you place the java minecraft folder in the %appdata% folder and know you will be able to open minecraft. Then type you password and username in the bars that come up. If you don't have the latest version then you should update.
