I personally have three credit cards. One that I use for any business purposes, one that I am using for personal expenses and an emergency card. (The emergency card is needed as I have had cards go bad or been declined for computer reasons).
Having credits cards is fine as long as you do not spend more then you can pay off instantly. They are certainly needed for renting cars, getting hotels or enjoying a cruise. Debit cards are not the same as a credit card.
When a rental car company allows you to take a car they may charge $30.00 a day. When you actually get the car, they will preauthorize as much as $500.00. This means that if you use a debit card, you will have $530.00 of your money tied up for two weeks or more. Credit cards save this issue. Use them responsibly though!
