Yes, you can take more credits than required but only those that are required will be credited to your degree. However, whenever you decide to go to another college or even an on-line school some, if not all, of those extra credits can be transferred which will eliminate from taking other courses that are required.
Yes, I agree with the above. However, make sure those extra credits are not going to overload you where your primary program GPA is sacrificed. Remember, you want to move vertically toward your overall goals and objectives and not horizontally. It's good that you want to expand your base of knowledge, just be careful it does not interfere with your primary program of study.
Transfer issue will vary from one college to another. Some will accept a maximum of 72 semester hours from a two year college toward a bachelor's degree because they want the remainder to be "upper division" (junior and senior level) credits. Two year colleges are only allowed to grant "lower division" (freshman and sophomore level) courses.Wiki User

There are some programs of study that may take a bit longer depending on the number of credits required. Usually these are programs within the health related fields. In addition, for students who require developmental coursework as a result of basic skills testing, it would take longer. How much longer would depend on the extent of the developmental courses they are required to take. Evidently, those individuals who attend college on a part-time bases would also extend their time in school. How much longer would depend on the credit load carried each semester. Typically, an associates degree takes between 60 and 64 credits to complete depending on the specific school, program of study, and state mandates.

∙ 14y agoYou can if you wish. Some individuals attend college to complete prerequisite coursework for another institution, while others take courses for just personal interest or self enrichment. At the associates level, you typically do not have to declare a major.
