Some programs are more flexible in terms of the total time that is allowed during which to earn a degree, and some are less flexible. I general, there are at least two different 'tracks' that you can take. You can get state credentials as a counselor by earning the MSW, a masters degree in social work, or by earning a degree in counseling that leads to the LMHC, licensed mental health counselor.
