Typically only one, although two are only a little unusual; this is one of the sources of "fraternal twins". Women who are taking fertility drugs sometimes release five or more eggs in a single cycle, which often results in the high multiple births that are common with fertility drugs.

How many days between menstruation and ovulation depends completely on the individuals menstrual cycle as everyone is different. During a typical 28 day cycle ovulation will occur around day 14, but even with a regular cycle you can't just guess when you may ovulate.

During a woman's menstrual cycle, she will begin to ovulate. During ovulation, the ovary releases an egg. If the egg is not fertilized, it will continue to make its way down into the uterus. The uterus will begin to shed its lining since it is not needed. The lining of the uterus and the egg will be expelled from the vagina. This step of the menstrual cycle is what is refered to as the period.
