It is not known how many animals get hurt during animal testing. Not all facilities that use animal testing make it public, Millions of animals are hurt world wide each year due to animal testing.
Thousand and thousands of, not just rats but dogs, cats, and any other type of household animals, are killed each year. Although most of the animals are killed about 2,000-3,000 animals are also injered due to animals testing out what the humans don't want to.
If the question was more accurate it would ask if animal testing helps to prevent Human Birth defects which it does by discovering items that cause animals to have an assortment of different problems. For most people of the world if you asked them to draw a picture of a baby it would be a picture of a human infant. For that reason the use of babies in the question was misleading and my first response was to answer "How could testing animals do anything to cause babies to become deformed". If they made it mandatory and started to test every product that is commonly used in house cleaning, maintenance, medicine, and an assortment of other items that a pregnant women may be exposed to I'm positive that many women would find it worthwhile to know a item has been shown to cause birth defects and deformities in animals. What kind of risk does bleach, hair spray, perfume, dry cleaned clothes, aspirin, latex paint, and just millions of other products carry to a newly forming fetus. It was only a few generations ago that pregnant women drank, smoke and used both legal and illegal drugs which we now know can be harmful to a developing fetus. While there was mounting evidence through observation of the human population to develop a theory that those items caused increased risks for certain birth defects it required animal testing so that scientific results could be determined and published. Some women ignore the warnings that these items have been shown to increase the risk of birth defects and while some still have healthy children at least the warning information existed. All women are left with luck and fate to decide what will happen as the become exposed to untested substances.
up to 10,000 animals are born with disibilities each half year
Hundreds of millions and it's still going on.
In Washington state from 2007 to 2008, roughly 1850 animals died due to animal testing :(
There is about 17,000
Many animals are dieing and that is were animal testing the animals comes in for good purpose. The purpose of improving human life instead of sacrificing a human you give up an animal. There are so many animals in the world and animals are still producing more. Think about it "It's you or the animal."
Many are, but it depends on what type of animal it may be.
There are many side-effects to testing in animals such as permanent brain damage, cancer, and even death.
I have no clue.
Approximately 12 .1 million animals are used a year for testing.
Yes, many animal byproducts are used within cosmetics and animals are routinely tested upon - even if a company claims not to support animal testing, they may use research based on animal testing by other companies or be owned by a parent company who use animal testing. Proctor & Gamble are the worst for this, they not only use animal testing but have supported grossly unethical animal testing and outright torment animals - aka Huntington Life Sciences.
