The earth spins on it's axis, to face the sun. i.e.it takes 24 hours to do a whole rotation around it's axis.

Actually, the Earth is orbiting the Sun at the same time that it is revolving about its axis. As a result, the period of rotation of the Earth with respect to far distant stars (the sidereal day) is about 23 hours and 56 minutes, while the period of rotation of the Earth with respect to the Sun (the Tropical day) is about 24 hours.

It doesn't make any orbits in 24 hours. The earth rotates on it's own axis one full turn in 24 hours to complete a full day but it takes 365 days (366 in leap year) for the earth to make a complete orbit around the sun called a year.

It takes the Earth 365 days (one Earth year) to orbit the sun. Twenty four hours is the length of one day, the period of time it takes the Earth to complete one revolution on it own axis.
