Approximately 700 Species have been named. Alligators and Crocodiles ARE NOT dinosaurs! However, Birds are largely considered to be the ancestors of saurischian dinosaurs and therefore could be said to be dinosaurs.
Well since we haven't discovered these dinosaurs we don't know how many there are left. Also the fact that a majority of the animal life that exists/existed doesn't fossilize, there are and will be animals that we will never learn about.
