Every 2 minutes 21 dogs are euthanized across the United States. Most of these dogs would have made wonderful companions. Each one of them died due to lack of funding, space and interest from the general public.
Sadly 3-4 thousand dogs get put down a month n this is just on animal shelters imagine how many get ran over or abused ect n they did nothing it's sad :'(
They were either abandoned by their owner or the offspring of feral or stray dogs.

There are many animal shelters in Illinois for cats, dogs, ferrets, and house rabbits. Check out the related links for more detailed info.
I just researched this on ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) There are approximately 78.2 million dogs and 86.4 million cats OWNED in the US (APPA, 2012). However, there is a huge stray population of cats - approximately 70 million of them. So, if you have any animals - neuter them. A shocking statistic is that every year approximately 3 - 4 million companion animals are euthanazed in animal shelters throughout the US. Such a sad fact.
Why not? My aunt has bought all her dogs from shelters. All those animals need is a home and love. Cause they didn't get that from their previous owners.
dogs go to shelters if they are stray, have something wrong with them, or their owners send them there.
6-8 million dogs are killed each month from puppy mills/shelters b/c of food and behavior
yes, that is Mike Vitar on the cover of the calendar. It was produced to raise funds for the Best Friends Animal shelters. Most of the dogs in the calendar were rescues from the shelters
You can find free dogs for adoption near you at local animal shelters, rescue organizations, and online platforms like Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet.
In my opinion, yes. Animals should not be killed if they can't get adopted. Put it this way, if you were in a foster home and you couldn't get adopted, would you want to be killed? No, so why should the shelters kill the animals? Exactly, they shouldn't because that is called abuse. So final answer: All animal shelters should become no-kill animal shelters.
Shelters are always in need of donations. Not just $$$, but dog or cat food, cat litter, blankets, toys. Also your time. Walking dogs, or just spending time with the animals helps!
