saturated lipids and fatty acids have only single bonds, in order for it to be an unsaturated lipid or fatty acid, there must be at least one double bond present.

MY ANSWER:---

Dear sir,

I am a class 10 student and believe that your question only is not legitimate. How can a saturated compounds have a double bond. However, fats and oils have double bonds.(Unsaturated)

Here is a link I found on the net.It will help you understand better!!

Search for oleic acid.

(Please rectify if I am wrong..I would like to understand Organic Chemistry as much as possible)

Yes.

Monounsaturated fats have one double carbon bond.

How many double bonds in saturated fat acid?

Zero

How do you know if a lipid is saturated?

To be a saturated fat, the lipid has no double bonds. If it has at least one double bond, the lipid is an unsaturated fat.

What fatty acid has no double bonds between carbon atoms?

A saturated fat. Saturated with hydrogen at the bonding site freed up by lack of carbon-carbon double bonds. This fat packs tightly and is solid at room temperature.

A fat with no carbon-carbon double bonds that is usually solid at room temperature is said to be a?

Saturated fat. Double bonds = unsaturated One double carbon-carbon bond would be monounsaturated. Many double carbon-carbon bonds would be polyunsaturated.

Term used for a lipid that has no double bonds or fully hydrogenated...?

Saturated Fat. The double bond occurs when you remove a hydrogen, so when a fat is fully hydrogenated it has no double bonds.

What is a fat with no carbon-carbon double bonds called?

Saturated. This is because with no carbon-carbon double bonds the bonding sites are taken up by hydrogen, thus saturated. These saturated fats are solider tha unsaturated fats containing carbon-carbon double bonds.

What are the two categories of these are saturated and unsaturated?

Fat can be either saturated or unsaturated. It can not be both at the same time. If there is one or more double bonds between carbon atoms, the fat become unsaturated. If all the bonds between carbon atoms are single bonds, the fat becomes saturated.

What is the structural difference between a polyunsaturated fat and a saturated fat?

There are double bonds present in the fatty acid chains of a polyunsaturated but none in a saturated fat.courtesy of Edward XOX

What are unsaturated fats and saturated fats?

You have one or more double bonds between carbon atoms in unsaturated fat molecules. You have no such double bonds in the structure of saturated fat molecules. You have all the single bonds between the carbon atoms.

Do saturated fatty acids contain a carboxyl group?

No double bonds. A saturated fat has hydrocarbon chains that are close together. An unsaturated fat contains double bonds in the hydrocarbon chains which makes a kink in the chain. This makes them sit farther apart and thus more liquid than saturated hydrocarbons.

What is the difference between a fat an oil?

fat is referred to Animal fat/ saturated fat=no double bonds between carbon chain while oil is referred to plant or fish fat(oil)/ unsaturated fat = it contains double bonds between carbon chain.

How can you tell if fat is saturated?

Saturated fats have no double bonds in their chemical structure. They are β€œsaturated” with hydrogen atoms. Because of their chemical structure, they have a solid consistency at room temperature.
