∙ 13y agoYou mean Americans? There are some 60,000 Americans living in Mexico City (a city with a population of 19 million). However, the place in Mexico with most expats is Guanajuato and its surroundings, where some 200,000 Americans - most of them retirees - live.

There is an extensive network of expats on bulletin boards in Mexico. The collective estimation of the expats living in Mexico is that only one ordinary American has been killed in drug cartel activity. It was the man on the jet ski in Lake Falcon. There have been about 7 Americans killed who either worked for the embassy in Juarez or who were DEA agents. About one million American expats live in Mexico full time and another eleven million visit there each year.
As opposed to what? Living in the streets? More than 21.16 million people live under a rooftop in Mexico City.

It didn't. Its just that many people have found the house market too expensive to live there. That is one of the reasons many people live on the periphery of Mexico City.
In... Mexico? Most of them live on the Central Mexican Plateau, but many other live on the coasts and on the Yucatan and Baja California peninsulas. Most people in Mexico live on houses, but many of those who live on larger cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey live on apartment buildings.
