The colony established by Stephen F. Austin is the most recognized colony. Mexico wanted Texas settled and allowed Austin to move approximately 300 families to what is now the Austin, Texas area.
Stephen F. Austin established the first American Colony in Texas. He led 300 families there on approval of the Mexican government. A few years later, he was allowed to bring 1,700 more families into the colony.
The original person who settled Texas was Moses Austin. After he died, his son, Stephen Austin took over and settled Texas to its statelyhood.
