There are 5280 feet in one mile. Therefore to get amount of feet in miles, value of miles has to be multiplied by amount of feet in one mile:

40 miles = [miles] * 5280 = 40 * 5280 = 211200 feet

How long does it take to go 12 miles at 40 mph?

Distance = speed X time at speed. In this instance, the time is unknown; designate it t. Then 12 miles = 40 miles/hour X t or t = 12/40 hours = 0.30 hours or 18 minutes (60 minutes = 1 hour).

A river has a current of 4 mph find the speed of simons boat in still water if it goes 40 miles downstream in the same time as 24 miles upstream?

Let s = unknown speed in still water in units of miles per hour. The downstream speed will then be s + 4 and the upstream speed s - 4. In an equal time t in units of hours, t(s+4) = 40 and t(s-4) = 24. Multiplying out the parenthetical expressions yields ts + 4t = 40 and ts - 4t = 24. Subtracting the second of these equations from the first gives 8t = 16, or t = 2 hours. Therefore, ts +4t = 40, by substituting 2 for t becomes: 2s + 8 = 40, or 2s = 40 - 8 = 32, or s = 16 miles per hour.

Equation for time as a function of distance and velocity?

Since distance (D) equals velocity (V) xtime (T) (D = V x T), then time equals distance divided by velocity or T = D/V. For example, going 20 miles per hour for 2 hours will move a distance of 40 miles. Looking at it the other way, 40 miles divided by 20 miles per hour will equal 2 hours of travel time. PJ

If the lake is 60 miles away and Rene is driving at 40 miles per hour the entire time how many minutes will it take her to get to the lake?

I learned this in elementary school.... the formula for this problem is D = RT or distance equals rate times time. Fill it in.. D = 60 R = 40 T = ? D = RT You have to find the time, so you have to do the opposite, or divide. 60 / 40 = 1 hr 20 min. [8
