It depends upon the size of the hermit crab. You can fit 5-7 small crabs in a 10 gallon tank but only 1 or 2 large crabs. The more room you leave for your crabs the happier and healthier they will be.
be careful not to overcrowd your tank, cos the hermits can get stressed, and may leave their shell or crawl into a corner and sulk :) But probably two or three would be enough room
Housing
The very first thing your new pet will need is a 'crabitat.' A crabitat is where your hermit crab will spend most of its time, so choose a home that is clean and roomy. A 10-gallon glass aquarium can be purchased at a reasonable price and makes an ideal 'starter home' for your crab. If you are unable to purchase an aquarium, there are other options available, such as plastic critter carriers. Keep in mind how many crabs you ultimately plan on housing and how you would like their home to look. It will help you make up your mind when the time comes to decide on the size of your crabitat. Make sure the cage will hold your pets, their food and water dishes, extra shells and climbing toys. You want a cage large enough to hold all these things and still have space for the crab to roam if he wishes http://www.hermit-crabs.com/care.html
The name "Hermit" crab is a misnomer as hermit crabs live in large colonies in the wild and prefer the company of other hermit crabs. You should definitely get a minimum of two. I currently have 27 living in a 90 gallon terrarium my smallest one is the size of a dime, the largest is the size of a tennis ball and they have gotten along well for years. Crabs love to pile on top of one another and sleep.
It depends on the size of the Hermit Crab, 1 micro per gallon, 1 tine per 1.5 - 2 gallon, 1 medium per 3 gallons, 1 large per 4 gallons, 1 jumbo per 5 - 6 gallons.
None, but I gues if you have a small crab, one.
The best number is two or three, because you want to have an extra on hand in case on of them dies. Also, it is fun to watch them together. One hermit crab would be lonely!
i wouldn't say anymore than 3 or 4
2-3 small hermies
A lot
I'd say no more than 6 medium sized crabs in a 55 gallon tank.
Up to 2 small ones or 1 big one.
No, hermit crabs like many other creatures have exoskeletons.
Zero. Hermit crabs lay eggs.
yes they are protected in California as California is kind of a tropical country with many seas and they are many hermit crabs which represents California, thus California protects the species of hermit crabs
I'm not sure what you mean by this question. Hermit Crab is a term used to refer to many different species of crabs that live in shells that have been cast off by snails. They can be marine hermit crabs, or land hermit crabs. Within these categories there are many different species. The Genus Coenobita contains 16 different species of terrestrial (land) hermit crabs. The Genus Paguras refers to those species of marine hermit crabs.

Only 3 to 5 at a time. I own hermit crabs myself , so I know what they are like and how many you need :)
There are not many hermit crab predators. Their shells protect them. Man is the greatest threat to hermit crabs.
a good amount but if he/she did not eat all of it last night you could leave it but it matters how many hermit crabs you have but do a good amount!
