With such a large area of the country flooded the impact was severe for a large number of people.
The impacts varied between urban and rural areas and these are described separately. well i think to say myself that what caused the flood was the monsoon rainfall
Rural areas.
The most vulnerable areas are the low flat areas made up of deposited silt and called the "char" areas. These areas are inhabited by very poor subsistence farmers who struggle to survive in normal years. As the flood waters rose most families tried to stay in their homes and simply raised their beds and furniture to be able to live above the water. When the water reached roof level they would move to higher ground but within easy reach of their homes. In many cases their animals would drown as these areas of high ground were barely big enough to hold the people. The floods brought a considerable health risk from water borne diseases as the wells were submerged making the water unsafe. As a result diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea spread widely, especially in the crowded unsanitary conditions on the higher ground. In the worst hit areas the flood removed whole villages and large areas of farmland were swept out to sea. A large percentage of the crops were lost so farmers did not have enough food to survive unless food was supplied from elsewhere. The roads were flooded and this made it very difficult to bring in this relief to the rural areas. After the flood Bangladesh was left with a deficit of 2.2 million tonnes of rice (7% of output) and this had to be replaced by imports or foreign aid. In such severe floods the deposits tended to be infertile sand rather than silt and when the water went down large areas were infertile.
Urban areas,
The capital city of Dhaka was badly affected with its Eastern area being flooded and 45% of houses having water at roof level in some districts. ( The western areas were protected by the Western embankment.) In the city the poor were particularly badly affected, losing income and having to borrow money and suffering from diseases such as dysentery and diarrhoea. ( in some areas up to 25% of the population.) The worst problems were a lack of clean drinking water and food shortages. Those that left their houses tried to stay with relatives but others were left to find open space on higher ground where diseases spread rapidly in crowded conditions.
The flood swallowed 300,000 houses, 9,700 kilometres (6,027 mi) of road and 2,700 kilometres (1,678 mi) of embankment. The casualties accounted 1,000 people killed by drowning or disease like typhoid and cholera from contaminated water. The agriculture had a severe blow with the loss of 135,000 cattle and the damaging of 700,000 hectares of crop land. The material destruction was overwhelming: 30 million people were made homeless, 50 square kilometres (19.3 sq mi) of land was destroyed and 11,000 kilometres (6,835 mi) of roads damaged or destroyed. Most of the destruction was in the fan of Ganges. With over 1.00.000 people died. and 50 thousand people left homeless.

blah blah blah. no. it depends on how big the flood is or how much water damages the property or area. if it is alot of water, you would expect to have to pay alot!
If a person house has sustained flood damage, one should contact their home insurance company and report the damages. Another person that one should contact is a contractor to estimate the cost of the damages.
It will depend on the cost to repair.

Everyone needs to protect their homes from flood damage. Flooding can occur at any given time, without warning. Recent events in the Northeast should be a painful reminder of how quick flooding can happen and the damage that it brings.Homeowners and renters alike need to be aware that most insurance plans do not cover flood damage. Damage caused to your structure and personal property by flood waters is only covered if you carry a separate flood policy.Flood insurance can be purchased through the National Flood Insurance Program. This program, run by FEMA, offers low cost flood protection policies to everyone that applies. These policies can make the difference between the loss of everything and being completely covered in the event of a flood.Floods do not always happen as a result of bad storms. If a water main breaks outside of your residence and the water fills your home the insurance company will consider the damage as flood damage. Without flood protection you will suffer the losses caused by this flooding. You are always better off having the extra protection. To make sure you are covered for outside flood damage review your homeowner’s policy in its entirety. Do not be mistaken that you are covered for flood damage if you see references to water damage in the policy. Homeowners insurance will cover water damage by events that take place in the home – not outside the home.If you do not have coverage for flood damage you should contact the nearest NFIP provider. You can do this through the FEMA website or a quick internet search. Once you have found a provider invest in the plan. It is worth the cost.Renters should also consider having flood protection. If your residence is damaged because of flood waters your contents are not covered. The owner of the building, even if they have flood insurance, is not responsible for your personal belongings. You must have your own policy to receive any help in restoring your life after a flood.
