However, the oldest park in the National Park system is Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas. It was established as Hot Springs Reservation in 1832 (the concept of a National Park did not yet exist at the time). It was the first time that a piece of land had been set aside by the federal government to preserve its use by the people. Hot Springs Reservation was renamed Hot Springs National Park in 1921. History was therefore, re-written.
