Attorneys do not get paid by the hour or work to a schedule. As an employee, an attorney gets paid a fixed amount per year. On each day an attorney work until he decides that he has done what is needed. Of course the employer may also say that he has to be doing the firms work from, for example, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. It is up to the individual attorney how much he works if he is self-employed. Successful attorneys almost always work brutal hours.
