According to California Law:

"Each person between the ages of 6 and 18 years not exempted under the provisions of this chapter or Chapter 3 is subject to compulsory full-time education."

The law also says that a person can drop out at 16 if they have a "certificate of proficiency" as well as parental consent.

Answer based on Ca. Education Code Part 27. Chapters 2 and 3.

Advice: Most teens that want to drop out of school don't read well. Practice makes perfect. Go to the Library and get a book at your level and read it. Read another one instead of watching TV or going to the movies. Go to a school, night school, there are a dozen ways to get an education these days. Graduate. Don't drop out, change your method of schooling. I have friends that dropped out and in their fifties they are still wondering what their lives could have been with an education. I think they chaged the law, one has to be 18 to drop out of school. Don't do it.
