time is usually the reason, for example i don't think most people would condemn a doctor for not volunteering at a homeless shelter after hours because this person is already doing an important duty for the community. this goes for many other positions but there are many that wont volunteer due to laziness complacency or separation from a particular cause

I believe 200 hours is the minimum requirement for UC's...At least that's what they say at mu high-school. But the hours have to come from a steady place. Not like you volunteer at a homeless shelter for 2 hours, then at as an office intern for 10 hours and then as babysitter for 5 hours. You have to collect hours from a steady source and your volunteering has to be something you love, for example....if you like medics, volunteer at a hospital, medical office or for American Red Cross. If you like law, volunteer at a law firm. But make sure to stay with the same place for at least a couple years to show that you are dedicated and passionate about what you do.
