There are 3 main house elves in the Harry Potter books: Dobby, the ex-elf of Lucius malfoy; Winky, the ex- elf of Barty Crouch, (they both were given clothing (dismissed, then joined Hogwarts kitchens) (dobby died); and Kreacher, Sirius Black's ex-elf (harry then inherited him). The others were not actually introduced but the Hogwart's kitchen house-elves were mentioned
Dobby and Kreacher, the only two house elves to appear in the movies, were both animated and not played by any actor since they are not human. Dobby was voiced by Toby Jones while Kreacher was was voiced by Simon McBurney.
House Elves were first introduced in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Dobby tells Harry not to go to Hogwarts and enters his home in Pivet Drive.
