From the New Testament book, The Revelation to John, "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." In the story of Adam and Eve, the only fruit, if we can call it that, was immortality. The Tree of Life was a mythical tree that formed part of the creation mythology of many ancient Near Eastern religions. In the Genesis story, they were sent from the Garden and could not be allowed back for fear they would eat of this tree and live forever.
