He was the founder of the Twenty-fifth dynasty of Egypt who ruled Egypt from 753/752 BCE to c. 722 BCE. He ruled both Egypt and the kingdom of Kush from the city of Napata, deep in Nubia, the spiritual capital of the Kushites. He also tried to conquer lands in Asia, but was defeated by the Assyrian king Shalmaneser V in the 720's BC.
