8 major limbs
Crayfish have a limited ability to regenerate lost body parts, including limbs, but they generally do not regenerate eyes. If a crayfish loses an eye, it may not grow back; however, it can sometimes compensate for the loss by relying more on its other senses. Regeneration is more prominent in limbs than in complex structures like eyes.
Crayfishes are capable of regenerating its limbs. The crayfish has a "breaking joint" near the base of each claw and leg which is used a safety measure. When grabbed by an enemy, it twitches a special muscle and the joint breaks so the crayfish can escape. A new limb will grow in its place, eventually regrowing to normal size.
