By convention there are 60 single-spaced lines per typewritten page. This allows for top and bottom margins, the actual paper length is about 10% more.

First identify which are the long sides. Paper can be held either in portrait or landscape position. In portrait, the longer sides are the sides, and the shorter sides are the top and bottom. In landscape, it is the opposite. Since your question didn't indicate portrait or landscape, I will give the directions for portrait. For landscape, just turn the paper so that the longer sides are top and bottom. For portrait, make sure that the longer sides are at the sides. Now fold the paper so that the longer sides touch, then press the paper to make a crease along the fold. For landscape, fold the paper so that the shorter sides touch, and press the paper to make a crease along the fold.

Unless your term paper professor says 2 spaces, use 1 space after the period or question mark. The consensus of editors (and the AP Style Guide) say 1 space. For monospaced typewriter fonts, typists once used 2 spaces to make the break between sentences clearer. However, except for Courier font, these all disappeared over 40 years ago. No typographer since that time has recommended 2 spaces. It is, however, still acceptable on some kinds of typed drafts, which are not intended for transcription.
A margin is a space separating text or other elements from the edge of the paper commonly adjusted through the page setup. Most programs allow for the Top, Bottom, Left, and Right margins to be set. The standard margin settings are 1" Top and Bottom and 1.25" Left and Right.

In MLA format, the margins are set to 1 inch on all sides of the paper. This gives the paper a clean and professional look, and helps ensure that the text is evenly spaced and easy to read.
