An automatic transmission needs no manual shifting - a continuously variable transmission needs no manual shifting. Based on those parameters I believe that you are okay.
if it has a clutch, the clutch needs replaced. if it's an automatic, it needs to be overhauled by a dealership or competent transmission shop.
It depends on the transmission type. For a 4-speed automatic transmission (4F27E) needs a torque converter, but for a 6-speed PowerShift needs no torque converter at all, it using the Dual Clutch technology.

Look for a transmission hose line on the radiator, you can unplug it, run the engine and pour new transmission into where the tranny dipstick is at the same time it drains from the hose. Get ready, you'll need about 10 litres of the right automatic transmission fluid type too. check the tranny dipstick to see what kind of atf fluid it needs.
Open the engine compartment and then move to the drivers side of the engine. between you and the motor about 6 inches behind the belts will be a small tube. If you have an automatic transmission there will be one there already for the transmission. The other tube will be slightly in front of it.
