A Canadian loonie, which is a one-dollar coin, is primarily gold in color, made from a nickel-brass alloy that gives it a shiny, golden appearance. The coin features a common loon on one side, which is where it gets its nickname. The reverse side typically has the denomination and the year of minting. Overall, the loonie's distinct gold color makes it easily recognizable among Canadian currency.

A twonie is a Canadian Two Dollar coin. It has a polar bear on one side and the Queen's picture on the other side. The name Twonie comes from what the Canadians call their one dollar coin, A Loonie which has the Loon on the back side of the coin. So since it's a two dollar coin they combined Two and Loonie and came up with twonie.

A loon looks like a large, heavy duck, bigger than a duck but not so large as a goose. Its head appears a bit oversized and, along with its neck, is black with a greenish sheen. You can tell a loon from other similar birds by its diving habits - it will stay underwater for a long time, reappearing several meters away. Also, because its legs are so far back on its body, it cannot walk on land. Some issues of the Canadian one dollar coin (often called a looney) feature a silhouetted image of the loon on the reverse side (other issues feature the Canada Goose).
