In case it is hard to say because every year people kill sharks and millions get killed a year because people need cartilage from sharks, although mostly people catch them to eat them.
It would be virtually impossible to know how many sharks are left in the oceans of the world. They are being caught and killed at an alarming rate. Some estimates put it at around 100 million a year. Most are caught and killed for "finning". If international laws are not put in place to protect all species of shark, extinction will be inevitable.
The exact number is hard to estimate, but for all of the 350-400 species, and all ages, it is in the hundreds of millions. The number of sharks killed or netted each year is often exaggerated, but is also in the millions.
