Depends what you are asking about.

If you are buying a new hard drive, there are 1000 Megabytes in a gigabyte.

If you are talking about files on a computer, there are 1024MB in a GB.

The reason for the difference is because of how computers work (base 2 counting) 1024MB to a GB is a convenient size.

Drive manufacturers use 1000 instead of 1024 because it makes their hard drives sound bigger, but is still technically correct.
