The Mohawk tribe, one of the original nations of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy), historically had a population that varied over time. In the early 18th century, estimates suggest there were about 1,000 to 2,000 Mohawks. Today, their population is part of a larger community, with thousands of members primarily residing in New York and Canada, including the Mohawk Nation of Akwesasne, which has around 12,000 members.
