1,015 miles taking this route:

  1. Take I-65 NORTH to I-40 EAST to KNOXVILLE via TN-840 EAST around Nasvhille in Tennessee. (EXIT 59A off I-65 in TENNESSEE to get onto TN-840 EAST, then EXIT 76A off TN-840 to get onto I-40 EAST towards KNOXVILLE.)
  2. Take I-40 EAST to I-81 NORTH to BRISTOL at EXIT 421 via I-640 EAST (EXIT 385) to bypass Knoxville.
  3. Take I-81 NORTH all the way up through Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland to U.S. 11 (to MIDDLESEX) TO I-76 Pennsylvania TURNPIKE (toll road) at EXIT 52B in Pennsylvania.
  4. Once on U.S. 11, follow signs to I-76 PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE to PHILADELPHIA and PITTSBURGH. Once you are at the PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE and once you are past the toll booth, follow signs to I-76 EAST to PHILADELPHIA.
  5. Take the PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE EAST on I-76 and then on I-276 (in Philadelphia) to the NJ TURNPIKE NORTH to NEW YORK. Follow signs NORTH to NEW YORK.
  6. Take the NJ TURNPIKE (toll) NORTH to New York.

Christiansburg, Virginia is the half-way point. I would suggest that you stop here overnight.
