I have a 78' with a 460 in very good tune in excellent condition and I average about 10 Miles per gallon in the city and 11-13 on the highway with slower cruising speeds giving much better mileage. A relative has a '79 with a 400 that needs a bit more work and may not be in good tune and he averages about 8 in the city and about 9-10 on the highway. But as they say, your mileage will vary !
