The number of motors in a robotic device is dependent upon the functionality of the robotic device. A simple robotic arm that acts as a sorting device on a conveyor may only need a pneumatic piston and as such would require no "motor".

As a robotic device becomes more complex, the requirements for other actuators will increase.

To design a robot will take some time and thought. Only the designer can decide how many motors will be required.

What is the simplest robot I can build?

The simplest robot you can build is a basic line-following robot, which typically consists of a small chassis, two wheels, a motor, a power source (like batteries), and light sensors. The sensors detect the line on the ground, and the motors adjust the wheels' movement to keep the robot following the line. This project requires minimal components and basic programming skills, making it accessible for beginners. You can find many tutorials online to guide you through the building process.

Is a robot a mathematics and computer science?

Yes. You need to apply a lot of mathematics and computer science, and many other skills, to be able to build a robot. You have to construct the robot's frame first, then you must make the circuitry and all of the gears and motors for the robot to function, then you have to be able to make software for the robot, implementing its artificial intelligence (the 'brain' so to speak).

Which store sells a Brushless DC motor?

Many stores sell the Brushless DC motor. Among them are Robot Shop, Maxon Motor, and Ted Motors. It would be expected that other mechanically oriented stores would sell Brushless DC motors too.

How can you design robos in robowar?

I have had pretty good luck with buying small remote control cars at the dollar store and taking them apart to reconfigure them into what I want, but that ends up with wires connecting the robot to the controller. Some of the people I work with have pieced together radio control cars and other parts to get radio control robots. If you prefer robot kits, some hobby stores sell a few inexpensive ones that are sometimes configurable. Otherwise some of the less expensive construction kits like Lego or K-NEX or Construx or a few others have motors and gears in the kits. If you have a larger budget, Lego Mindstorms or Bioloid are more advanced kits that are programmable and autonomous. Some very important terms to keep in mind are: remote control - usually connects the robot to the controller by a wire, you can usually keep the batteries in the controller to make the robot lighter. radio control - the controller is a transmitter, the robot has a receiver on it, both need batteries. autonomous - you set up the robot and program it to run sets of commands, when you set it down and turn it on it runs the commands. Highest skill level, usually requires programming knowledge (like BASIC, C language, Assembly, ForTran, COBOL or some others) and electronics knowledge (like power supply vs. load, Programmable Logic Arrays, Trans/ceivers, sensors, and many other options). But of course it is the most fun. operator controlled - the robot has motors in it, maybe some electronics, it doesn't move until you push a button or lever on the controller. sensory feedback - the robot can have switches, sensors or detectors on it that send information back to the controller (or its processor if it is autonomous). Might require a transmitter on the robot and a receiver in the controller (with some indicators to tell you what the robot is "sensing"). There is a ton of things that can go together to make a robot, if you learn how to fix appliances and cars it definitely helps you figure out robots.

How many pages does The Complete Robot have?

The Complete Robot has 688 pages.

Do all motors need a thermistor?

Not all motors require a thermistor. The need for a thermistor depends on the application and the specific motor design. Thermistors are often used in applications where temperature monitoring is critical to prevent overheating and ensure optimal performance, such as in high-power or continuous-duty motors. However, many smaller or less demanding motors operate effectively without temperature monitoring.

How many batteries are needed to power a robot?

The number of batteries needed to power a robot will depend on the design of the specific robot.
