There are two major mountain ranges in Cyprus, the Troodos range in the South and the Penedactylos in the North.
The Troodos are very beautiful, being thickly forested with both evergreen and deciduous trees and dotted with villages and small towns, which offer some superb hotels and restaurants. The Penedactylos range is in the Northern sector of the island, controlled by the Turks- these are much more sheer-sided and craggy, with little vegetation other than scrubby bushes and the occasional olive grove. However, a main road leads across them to the Northern coastal town of Kyrenia.
