Why does Australia have so many obese people?
This question would suggest that Australia has one of the world's highest percentages of obese people. This is not the case. Australia is not even on the World Health Organisation's list of the world's top 10 "fattest" countries. Figures from the 2004-2005 Australian National Health Survey indicated that 47% of Australians over the age of 15 were overweight, but only one-third of them were obese - which is roughly 18%. As for why there are some obese people - this is largely the result of the influence of fast food restaurants in Australia.
