The general rule of thumb is you need at least one acre per animal. But, there are other conservation practices you could do to increase or decrease this amount. It mainly relies on what type of forage you have growing, and if you are going to feed supplemental grain to the animals. The best answer there is, is to go to your local USDA service center (every county has one) and talk to a Natural Resources conservation technician. It is free and they can tell you an exact number based on your land.
