In the Philippines, the native wind instruments are various types of flutes. The flutes are made mostly of bamboo and have three to six holes. The Tumpong and Bansik are just two of the flutes used in the Philippines.
Irish flutes can be made out of many different materials. Most of the Irish flutes are made of materials such as wood or bamboo, but can also be made from PVC.
Flutes are wind instruments as are many other musical instruments but I don't think it has a "scientific" name. There are other names for small flutes but not ordinary flutes.
There are many variations of the flute...the most common and the ones that most relate the the common "C" flute are the piccolo, alto flute and bass flute. There are glass flutes, bamboo flutes, Irish flutes, etc.
