Are we taking fluid ounces here? If so: 1 cup = 8fl oz Therefore 1.5C = 12fl oz 56oz/12oz = 4.67 one and a half cups.. But it's probably easier to recognize that 56 floz = 7 cups This won't work for dry measures... For example 1 cup of flour ~ 5oz. or 1 cup of sugar ~ 9oz, etc.... cups are volumetric measurements oz are weights Only items that have a density near 1 (ie water or aqueous liquids) is 1cup = 8oz appropriate.
