The CDC puts Autism diagnosis at 1 in 68, however it is impossible to say how many Autistic people exist in the US. Many people are not diagnosed or may not even realize that they're Autistic, furthermore certain groups are under-diagnosed - for example girls are less likely to be diagnosed than boys, and African-Americans are less likely to seek diagnosis for a number of reasons.

No one knows how many people in America are autistic, many people may not be aware that they could be autistic let alone have gotten diagnosis. Although diagnosis is on the increase due to easier access to diagnosis and increased awareness of autism, CDC put autism diagnosis in children at around 1 in 68.

No one dies as a result of autism - not one single person.

Autism is a neurological difference, a person can no more die from being Autistic as they could being neurotypical or from being a specific race, sex, having a certain eye color, etc. Autistic people can be at higher risk of abuse, this includes murder at the hands of their parents or caregivers. Autism itself is in no way detrimental to a persons overall health, certainly it cannot kill a person.

Can autistics be actors?

Yes - autistic people can do anything that neurotrypical people can do. There are many autistic actors, for example Daryl Hannah.

How long does it take for some people to become Autistic if they quit talking and why?

A person cannot become Autistic, people are born Autistic. Not talking is not necessarily a sign of Autism either, many autistic people are non-verbal but not all and there are other reasons for people not talking.

Are people with autism crazy?

No, autistic people are not 'crazy'. Many autistic people can have mental health issues but they're no more likely to have mental health issues than anyone else and often mental health issues in autistic people is more to do with how society treats autistic people - e.g. depression is more likely in autistic people who are bullied or face discrimination.

How many organzatons support autism?

There are many organisations that support, or claim to support, autism and Autistic people. It'd be impossible to determine how many there are globally. Do bare in mind that many organisations actually work against Autistic people, only support those run by Autistic people themselves.

What careers can and cannot autistic people have?

Autistic people can have any career they want, we're as capable as neurotypical people. In some places Autistic people may not be able to serve I military or police force, although do bare in mind many Autistic people are not diagnosed so may join without knowing or without disclosing they're Autistic.

What is the Problem that exits in America today about autism?

The biggest problem that exists in America today about Autism is ignorance. A lot of people don't understand Autism or respect Autistic people, there is a lot of prejudice that results in Autistic people being bullied, murdered, abused, tortured, and denied their rights.

How differently do they treat autism in America than England?

In short, very differently. In England we have the Autism Act which ensures all Autistic people have a pathway to diagnosis, although there's limited support for Autistic people government staff are supposed to be trained to understand Autistic people, Autistic people don't face healthcare discrimination like in the US where they may be expected to pay more for health insurance, and there are anti-discrimination laws in place. In England we tend to me a lot more accepting of Autistic people. In America there is a lot of scare tactics being used by people like Autism Speaks to make money out of families with Autistic children - Autistic parents are expected to spend thousands and allow their children to be tortured to make them 'normal'. Autistic people can face a lot more discrimination both in terms of employment and healthcare, and generally within society people consider Autistic people to be less than neurotypical people and there are stereotypes about Autistic people being mass shooters or otherwise violent. Often Autistic children are murdered by their parents and there is such a problem of ableism around Autism that people support the murders. I'm Autistic and live in the UK, but I will be moving to the US to live with my Autistic husband - the difference in attitudes between the two countries is as different as chalk and cheese.

How many people get autism?

No one 'gets' autism, it's not a disease someone can catch - autism is a neurological difference, Autistic people are born Autistic. Currently rates of diagnosis are around 1 in 55, but we have no way of knowing for sure how many people may be Autistic but not diagnosed.

Can a nornal child turn into autistic child?

Firstly, it's offensive for you to imply that autistic people are abnormal - autistic people are different to neurotypical people, not less than. A person is born autistic, it is not something that happens to 'normal' people or something that you turn into, you are always autistic.

Do all autistic people lack a sense of humor?

No, not all autistic people lack a sense of humour. There is a saying in the autism community: once you've met one autistic person...you've met one autistic person. autistic people are as different and varied as neurotypical people.

Should people treat autism as a tragedy?

Many parents do struggle with their autistic child and are concerned about their future. Autism doesn't mean a child/adult who is mentally handicapped. Autistic brains think different and many autistic people only deserved to be understood and not treated like they're sick or handicapped. Autistic children/adults are not sick or handicapped. Many parents should try to understand their autistic child instead of being scared all the time.

How prevalent is autism in population?

The CDC have put Autism diagnosis at 1 in 68 within the US. We don't know how many people are Autistic because not that many people are diagnosed, many may not even know they're Autistic.
