well that is difficult to say, as everybody has different reactions to life or death situations. take a hostage situation for example, some hostages will react by staying quit and still, as if in shock. some will go into states of hysteria, and have fits, some will panic, some will oddly become very talkative. and since everyone has different reactions (this relates to most life or death situations) you cant guarantee you will get panic reaction people in the hostage group, the captor may end up with a group of talkers, or they might all react by staying quite and still.
so by this information i would estimate that maybe a quarter to a half of people in a life or death situation, e.g. a tsunami, or hurricane will slip into panic.

it depends on how you look at the situation it can be
Certainly don't panic or freak out. Of course, it is quite impossible to get the Black Death in our days. People do say try to live your life while you still can, so don't think about death.
Panic attacks by the, selves can make you have a feeling of impending doom or death but i have not heard of anyone dying of panic attacks.BUT that is not to say it cannot happen. If the shock of the panic attack is too much it may lead to a heart attack and a heart attack can lead to death unfortunately
It probably depends on the way you're dying. If you were drowning, having a heart-attack or burning to death I guess you'd panic but if you died on your deathbed of an illness or old-age you'd probably go peacefully like a lot of people do.
Panic attacks may be triggered by a specific action, such as drinking too much caffeine, or by a situation, such as being in a large crowd. Panic attacks may also start suddenly without a known trigger. For many people,it happens at the same time during their life when there is a lot of stress, such as a life-threatening illness or accident, the loss of a relationship, or separation from family.
