People do not die from alcohol, only from its abuse.
People don't die from alcohol but from alcohol abuse. Whether directly or indirectly, there are far to many people who have died because of alcohol abuse. But as long as you consume alcohol responsibly it can contribute to better health and longevity. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE, AS THIS IS HOW A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE DEATHS OCCUR

No one died in the US due to alcohol in 1999, only from the abuse of alcohol. The lives of many people were saved and/or extended because they consumed alcohol in moderation and enjoyed the health benefits of doing so.

They don't, but because some celebrities have died at this young age, it becomes more newsworthy. Generally, these celebrities died after many years of drug and/or alcohol abuse, and most of them died of overdoses or drug related causes.
